About a week ago I started hearing rumors about a new place in Chicago called Eataly. There are locations in New York, Italy and Japan but the Chicago store just opened two weeks ago. Part of me wanted to hoard this information to myself so that it doesn't get too popular but I'm just too excited not to talk about it!
The first floor is mostly a market. You can buy everything from fresh produce to sweets, gelato and cookware.
Just when you think life can't get any better, head upstairs.
I came determined to try their pizza. Once you have pizza in Italy there's no going back and nothing compares so I decided to make the sacrifice of trying this out. For the benefit of all good pizza lovers of course.
The wait was about forty-five minutes and with a promise of text when it was our turn, we headed off to explore the store.
With a stop at La Piazza first for some rosé. Naturally.
The second floor is part market where you can buy everything from wine to pasta to bread and part sit down restaurant. Take a look:
After the quickest forty-five minutes passed, we got a text telling us to come on over. It was pizza time.
Lauren and I went for a Margherita pizza. The true pizza of Italy.
I'm going to be completely honest with you. This was the best pizza I have had since Italy.
Everything was perfect from the basil to the cheese to the perfectly cooked crust with burnt edges.
I mean, just look at this bad boy!
Whether you've been to Italy before or just enjoy Italian food, Eatly is well worth the trip.
Go, get some wine, eat some food. Then go downstairs and buy some more to eat later.
If anyone is interested you can find them here.
