I don't know what it is but there's something about Christmas in the city.
The bell ringers on corners, the lights, window displays, a general hustle and bustle as people do last minute shopping, I love it all and I have a hard time getting in the holiday spirit until I've made at least one trip.
With finals over, we decided to spend the day in Chicago to celebrate and get in the holiday spirit. We drove in, in the morning and got dropped off right at the front door of Macy's, the ultimate winter wonderland.
Already in the holiday spirit, we headed strait for the Walnut Room.
With a little wine and a little chocolate, we people watched and talked our way through the rest of the morning.
After a while, we pulled ourselves from our seats and took a little wander . . .
. . .over to Eataly. A place so great it deserves it's own post but for now here's a little preview.
We reluctantly dragged ourselves out of Eataly and strolled through downtown.
Our walking led us to the Christkindlmarket, a Christmas mart set up every year in Daley Plaza.
The ornaments and Christmas decorations were beautiful but the real treat is to head into one of the timber houses for some mulled wine.
After sampling everything we could, then going around and doing it again, it was time to leave.
Nothing says Christmas is coming like a day in the city. 6 days left! But who's counting?
